According to Sputnik, Abid Bashir was one of the Taliban's top leaders in Nangarhar province, who had previously avoided terrorist ambushes.
The Taliban-IS confrontation in Afghanistan has been going on since 2015, when IS began creating terrorist cells and recruiting militants in the nation, putting the Taliban's power in jeopardy.

Sputnik claimed that fierce confrontations have erupted between the Taliban and the Islamic State in the provinces of Nangarhar, Logar, and Farah.
Since the Taliban retook power in Afghanistan in mid-August, the IS has carried out several terrorist attacks across the country, including the August bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, which killed more than 180 people, and an October attack on a Shiite mosque in Kunduz, which killed more than 150 people.

The Taliban have stated repeatedly that they will exterminate the IS faction in Afghanistan and will put an end to the assaults.
