Thom Browne Plans April Dual-Gender Runway Show in New York

Thom Browne will hold a dual-gender runway show in New York in April.

This year's Met Gala will be preceded by the debut of the designer's Autumn/Winter 2022 collection.

Thom Browne is the latest designs from the United States to announce that he will skip New York Fashion Week in February.

Instead, on Friday, April 29, just a few days before the Met Gala on May 2, the Zegna-backed label will stage a dual-gender runway show featuring his Autumn/Winter 2022 collection.

Browne expressed concerns about the spread of Covid-19's Omicron variant, which has caused manufacturing delays and staffing shortages, in an interview with BoF, which was canceled shared by other designers, including Council of Fashion Designers of America chairman Tom Ford. (Ford cancelled his show on February 16 due to outbreaks in his Los Angeles studio and atelier.)

A Met Gala-related show, on the other hand, would be a better marketing opportunity for the company. Browne's spouse, Andrew Bolton, is the chief curator of the Costume Institute, which will be celebrating the second part of its "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" show, which will probably draw an international throng.

"Andrew's presentation has celebrated American fashion in such a tremendous way, the pure inventiveness that is happening here," he added.

In terms of New York Fashion Week in February, some of the designers who have already committed to the showing may have to postpone or cancel, owing to the slow turnaround of samples at European factories dealing with Omicron outbreaks.
