Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United forward, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill, the Greater Manchester Police announced on Tuesday, following allegations that the 20-year-old had abused a woman online.

After being made aware of online social media posts by a lady describing incidences of physical violence, police said they detained a suspect on Sunday.

Greenwood's charges, which included video, photos, and a voice message, were uploaded on Instagram on Sunday and then deleted.

"Detectives have been given further time to speak to a guy in his twenties who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on a woman," stated Greater Manchester Police in a statement.

Greenwood was also removed from the offline versions of the hugely popular video game FIFA 22, and he is no longer a member of the United squad.
